Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme

The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year programme to promote teaching as a profession. Bursaries are available to enable eligible students to complete a teaching qualification in an area of national priority.

Funza Lushaka Bursary Outcomes

Qualified recipients of the bursary must request placement in a public school. The provincial education department (PED) will place a graduate bursar in a suitable teaching post. If a particular PED does not have a suitable teaching post for the graduate bursar, the applicant may be placed in a PED that does have a suitable post. Please note that bursars cannot choose the school in which they would like to be placed.
Applications for the Funza Lushaka bursary for 2016 will be accepted from 01 October 2015.
Please note that there are approximately 3500 new bursaries available in 2016. New applicants are advised to also pursue other funding opportunities.

Funza Lushaka Bursary Obligation

Recipients of these bursaries will be required to teach at a public school for the same number of years that they received the bursary.

Bursary Application Proof

Keep a copy for yourself, and submit a copy to the university where you have been accepted and where you will be registering. The copy submitted to the university must be accompanied by:

  • A certified copy of your ID.
  • A certified copy of your academic results.

For 1st year students coming out of Grade 12, this will be a certified copy of your Grade 12 result notification or Grade 12 certificate.

Department of Health Bursaries

The Department of Health is promoting careers in Health Sciences and is offering provincial bursaries to qualifying students in various fields.

All applicants may obtain a KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health Bursary Application Form from the nearest Government Hospital, Human Resource Department, to where your family home is in KwaZulu-Natal.

DO NOT go to the nearest Government Hospital to where you stay while at University, it may not be your home town.

You or a family member must collect and sign for the application form. You must return the FULLY COMPLETED form to the same Hospital you collected it from.

Bursary Application Process

A poster advertising the KZN Department of Health’s Bursary Program will be placed at all Provincial Hospitals, Internet, Clinics and Municipal Offices, and will clearly display the respective fields of study / scarce skills required by the KZN Department of Health.

Please ensure that you apply for a bursary if you are indeed studying for a degree/diploma as captured and advertised on the poster per District.

FNB Graduate Trainee Programme

The aim of this initiative is to give tertiary education access to financially disadvantaged, yet academically strong students. This will ensure that FNB is playing a role in contributing towards the economic development of South Africa, as we create a larger pool of talent to enter the formal sector.

Students need to contact the bursary service providers directly for more information on their application process, including application forms and closing dates.

FNB has partnered with established bursary service providers to administer the bursary programme.

The selected bursary service providers not only offer access to finance, but also support services to funded students. Candidates must contact the bursary service providers for more information on their application process.
